Easter 2012 - The Pretty Picture

I love these girls!

I wish I had gotten pictures of Easter dinner. Melissa Watson came over with her kiddos and we shared dinner together. It was so great to talk to her!

Easter 2012- The Baskets and Egg Hunt

One thing about having independent daughters is that they beat me to waking up in the mornings- every day. (Not like I was ever good at getting up early in the first place. Freakishly early, like for Seminary in high school, yes. But just regular early, not so much.) And they can be very quiet. Most of the time I don't mind this because they just pick a show or movie to watch quietly until Jillian wakes up at a normal time and then I have to get out of bed and we turn it all off and get our day started.

But on special occassions, I sometimes wish I was an early morning person so I could witness their first reactions. Monica and Leah had already eaten their candy from their baskets, which was a single row of peeps and a single 2" chocolate bunny. In our sugar sensitive household, that's a splurge. And they had gone outside to find the eggs the Easter bunny hid for them. Leah found two in the time it took Monica to round the rest up. Leah, as you might imagine, was quite upset. Not to mention, Jillian was still asleep. So I explained to Monica that since she had gotten all the eggs so fast, she had to re-hide them and help Jillian get her eggs in her basket and let Leah go for it.

Monica agreed this was a good compromise. So we got Jillian up, showed her her basket and then tried to convince her that searching for our colored eggs was fun. Poor Monica couldn't pry Jillian away from her little notebook and shiny pencil for the world. It was hilarious! Maybe next year...

Easter 2012- Egg Painting

Eli, Sarah and Orion Lambson, joined us for egg decorating this year.
It was so much fun! Orion's interest lasted about 5 minutes. Leah lasted about 10 minutes more and Monica hung on for even longer. But what was really amusing is how long Eli's interest in the egg decor lasted! He had some pretty cool experiments going. One egg made me think of Madame Mim from "The Sword in the Stone" when she breaks out in different colors and pox. Sarah kept teasing him about it being a zombie egg. They really cracked me up!
Monica and Orion had fun wrestling and chasing each other when they were done with the eggs.

I thought this was a sweet moment for father and son.

Sarah was right upon her due date. It was so sweet of them to come and spend some time with us. Thanks, guys!

Monica Lost Her Second Tooth

On March 20, 2012, Miss Monica lost her second tooth. This time she knew exactly when it was ready and brought me the tissue and while it took two tries this time, the point is, the tooth came out and it still wasn't painful. In Monica's words, "I felt a uh! but it didn't really hurt." She cracks me up!

Dr. Seuss Party

Emily, my sister, is really good about knowing when things happen. She knew about Dr. Seuss week last year and I completely missed it. So, I've been keeping an eye out for when she starts celebrating because she really has the best ideas. This year, I didn't miss it! Who didn't love reading Dr. Seuss in elementary school, right?

Anyways, on March 2nd, we participated in the Dr. Seuss "Read Across America" and had a Seussathon. By far, "Wacky Wednesday" was our family favorite. Ask Monica to tell you about it. I bet you she can't make it through the first few descriptions without giggling uncontrollably. Go read it and look closely at the pictures. We could not stop laughing! Monica was dying of laughter. I had to remind her to breathe, but her giggling got me going and even after Leah fell asleep we had to read it one more time. My sides have never ached more! So you probably have to go into it with low expectations and you should definitely read it with a young child just discovering the world of absurdity. It's the best.

The next day was Saturday and we had a little Dr. Seuss party. Ashlynne and Lesa were going to come up so we invited Camille Harrington up to be Monica's buddy. Then Ashlynne got sick and they couldn't come. So we invited Katie Curnutt and then she got sick after arriving to the party. This flu season has been brutal!

So in the end it was Monica, Leah, Jillian and Camille. We had a blast! We kicked it off by watching "Horton Hears a Who" and eating some snacks...

Marshmallow "Cat in the Hat" hats.

We read "The Lorax" and then made truffula trees.

The girls painting their tree trunks.

We had green eggs and ham for dinner, courtesy of "Green Eggs and Ham", and we had the pink ink drink from "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish". The yink that likes to drink ink and the ink he likes to drink is pink. Yeah, that.

Happy girls!

Jill enjoyed it, too!

The ham didn't turn out as green as I wanted it, but it was still the best part.

The finished truffula trees.

We topped it off with Thing 1 and Thing 2 cupcakes.

It was such a fun night! I do have to say, my favorite part was listening to Monica and Camille take turns reading "Wacky Wednesday" and giggling with each other as I made dinner. I love to see children love reading. It has nothing to do with the fact that I love reading so much that I used to get my books taken away because I was holed up in my closet reading instead of sleeping or doing the chores I was supposed to be doing...or maybe it does! Because I do like to see that same love being fostered in the next generation. It's a beautiful thing!

February 2012

February in a nutshell:

1.) Ryan accepted the offer to work with his brother, Travis, out in California.

2.) I turned 30. Yep. A new decade of life. Crossed the threshold of "old". Said goodbye to my youth. Ok, so maybe not the youth thing. Just a few months before that when I was purchasing a replacement part for my vacuum, the man thought I'd just graduated from high school and was astounded to discover I was the mother of 3 children and am going on 9 years of marriage. So maybe people will think I'm 19 now that I'm 30. That beats people thinking I had a child when I was 12...

Anyways, I got a few celebrations. I got to have lunch with some of my favorite ladies, (Emily Harrington, Sara Hicks, Michelle McDonough, Lesa Miller and Rachel Morsbach) at my favorite lunch eatery and continue my love affair with Dion's ranch dressing. We had dinner at Texas Roadhouse and I got spoiled with a full rack of their mouthwatering ribs. And on Saturday we had cake and ice cream with the Millers, after which, we (the adults) played Just Dance. And. It. Was. Awesome.

See? Awesome.

I also received a beautiful handmade necklace, they-don't-make-my-ears-swell-so-they're-completely-awesome-earrings, a beautiful handmade card, and the most recent movie in the Twilight saga. (I might be a closet Twi-hard.) I also received a set of charcoal pencils and a sketch book from my sister, and an awesome you just got old 30 year old gift set complete with 80's candies and cartoons, socks for my circulation, Bengay, and a 30 Years In the Making t-shirt that will be making its way around the family from my cousin, Maggie. I can't wait to send it to Emily next year! And the last thing I got on my birthday was a perfect bed that Ryan built from scratch. I am so in love with it. I need to finish decorating and then I will post a picture of this beautiful bed!

3.) Ryan left to California on February 15 with the plan of checking it out to see if we could make it work. It took less than a week for him to decide he loved it. Construction, building, remodeling...it's all in his blood. So, we started making plans for moving us out to California. We estimated it would take til about July for us to be able to afford the move and rent and all that good stuff. Plan B!

The rest of February is kind of a blur. I do remember that the day he left, I locked us out of the house and had to ask for help from one of my neighbors to break in. A day or two later, Leah wanted to help get Jillian out of her playpen. Since she couldn't lift her out, Leah decided she would cut the netting on the playpen to let Jill out. I know. But I sewed it up with some yarn and it wasn't so bad anymore.

Monica lost her first tooth!

On March 1, 2012 Miss Monica lost her very first tooth! It was about time, too, with her replacement shark teeth already fully emerged behind the front two teeth. I had told her to wiggle her tooth and watch "Spongebob" for a while. A few minutes later she said, "Mom, I think my tooth is ready to come out." It didn't look any different to me so I sent her back to watch cartoons and get wiggling. After she wiggled it again she came back very excited and said, "Look, Mom!" It was laying down, bleeding against her gums!

With Ryan in California, I had to get over my loose tooth heebie jeebies and step up to the plate. But first I had to be sure I was needed. I told her to try pulling it first. She yanked it and it didn't come out. I had her bring me a tissue and gave it a little twist as I pulled and it came right out! Whatever jolt of pain she initially felt was immediately replaced with overflowing excitement. She was jubilant, ecstatic, and whatever other happy superlative might be appropriate here. I thought she would not be able to contain herself and then all at once she got this look in her eyes of sudden realization and announced, "I want to go to bed so the tooth fairy can come. Can I? Please?"

I've never been one to say no to a child requesting bedtime, but the tooth fairy informed me she needed to go get cash. So my friend, Cynta, came over and read to the girls so I could take the tooth fairy to Walgreens. I told her instead of candy, that I'd like Monica to have a cool new toothbrush. So she went all out and got her a "decorate your own" handy dandy spinning toothbrush.

The next morning was awesome. Monica came running in to my room with her cheers of what she was given from the tooth fairy already out of her mouth before she even reached my room. If you've been to my house, you know what a feat that is. The hallway is tiny and our rooms are very close. Monica was EXCITED. And it was so much fun to watch her!
